“Greetings,
In an effort to combat the rise in auto theft crime, The Southern District Neighborhood Services Unit would like to introduce the”Watch Your Car” program by registering your vehicle. Registration will take place at the Southern District located at 10 Cherry Hill Road, Saturday, May 17, 2014 from 11 am – 4 pm.
The “Watch Your Car” Program is a FREE and voluntary national vehicle registration program designed to deter auto theft and to assist in apprehending thieves. Vehicle owners sign an agreement stating their vehicle is not normally being driven between the hours of 1:00 am and 5:00 am. Your vehicle’s identifying information is then entered into a centralized database which is available to law enforcement officers on a 24-hour basis.
Reflective decals are then displayed on the registered vehicle for identification purposes. If police officers observe the vehicle being driven during these hours, they may stop the vehicle to determine if the vehicle has been stolen. Information provided by the owner on the registration form will also allow law enforcement officials to immediately notify the vehicle’s owner upon determination that it is being illegally operated.
Statistics show that every 42 seconds a vehicle is stolen in the United States. Thieves look for vehicles that can be resold quickly or sold for parts. Whether you have a newer model or older model car, both are targets for car thieves. Most vehicles are stolen during nighttime hours when you are asleep. It only takes 10 minutes for one of our Neighborhood Services officers to register your vehicle.
Please contact us via email or our office at 410-354-5169 to speak with any available officer to sign up for the registration. Be sure to bring your driver’s license and vehicle registration with you. Light refreshments will be served. We look forward to seeing you!

Officer Dena T. Roney
